  • serrat(u)s bodywork 40 Zwinglistrasse Zürich, ZH, 8004 Schweiz (Karte)

Model: Saara Rei / Ropes & Photo: Nicolas Yoroï

With the SHIBARI MASTERCLASSES we present excellent contemporary shibari artists from Europe and beyond to the advanced shibari community in Zurich. For the fourth issue of this new series by mids of May, we are very glad to invite NICOLAS YOROÏ from Brussels – one of the most experienced and recognized riggers in Europe, who will present his unique practice of organic Kinbaku – together with the Berlin based rope model and workshop facilitator Saara Rei.

The event had to be postponed to end of 2022 / beginning of 2023.
Date to be announced soon. / Die Veranstaltung musste verschoben werden. Der neue Termin Ende 2022/Anfang 2023 wird in Kürze bekannt gegeben.

Organic Kinbaku

— Life, humans and nature are not square. Why should rope art be? —

This workshop will be based on static bondage. More specifically, we are going to work very internally, in subtle motion. The point will be to develop a very organic style of  bondage, to transform the body to a nearly plant-like state; surviving and evolving through a restrictive environment.

Visually, we will work around dividing rules that you can find in Ikebana and Bonsai art. By mimicking the shape of nature, or drawing inspiration for contortions, we can create unbalanced designs and breathing challenges for the person inside the ropes.

Internally, for both the tying person and their partner, it will be about making and taking space. It is one of the best workshops I offer to work around listening, calmness, and body manipulation/awareness.

Life is about a spiral, and spiral will be one of our main tools. You can find them anywhere; from the galaxy to our DNA, but also inside our ropes! Riggers are going to put this motion and feeling inside themselves to offer it to their partner through rope.

Posture and position will also be studied through the concept of MA. This workshop leads to a thoughtful and contemplative way of tying and being tied.

Saara Rei

is a workshop facilitator and performance artist with a background in music, dance, education, and public speaking. Saara's work generally centers around the exploration of suffering, both physical and emotional. Through their kink practice, Saara has come to understand that suffering comes from the comparison of what has been or could be to the present moment. And with that, Saara enjoys teaching about how to use suffering as a path to presence and enjoyment in life. Having a Ph.D. in mathematics, Saara’s academic experience adds an intellectual flair to complement their performative approach to bodywork. Playfulness and humor make up a big chunk of Saara's personality and approach to life, giving their workshops a very exploitative and light atmosphere, even while approaching some of the heaviest of topics.
