This event is part of the series CRITICAL FRIDAYS. Here, the outdated separation of body, mind and soul is dispensed with and instead questions are asked about embodied cognition and the cognitive powers of the somatic. The focus is on the body as a medium for artistic and ritual practices. We create dialogs with experts from the fields of science, art and care work. Performances, workshops, readings and film screenings serve as a starting point for joint reflections in which an arc is drawn between closeness and distance, between personal experiences and avant-garde cultural theories.
Art and eroticism have entered into a passionate liaison, not least since the Renaissance. One is kissed by the muse, the gaze scans pictures with voyeuristic pleasure, etymologically "brush" comes from "penis" and works of art are born. The pornographic, on the other hand, is considered an aesthetic that is neither particularly erotic nor artistic, as it is more about forms of predictable hypervisuality with the sole purpose of making you cum. But if pornography is shown as art films at the Porny Days Film Art Festival to queer-feminist trained eyes - what is happening here? And what happens in the many other art, workshop and event formats that we attend at the festival? How do we talk about images that break with viewing habits and conventions of sexuality? And what do the various films and events at the festival trigger (in us)?
While porn is usually used to put your hand in your crotch, we challenge you to do the same: Hand on heart and hand on brain! On Sunday afternoon, after the legendary Sweat & Glitter Party, we will take time to talk about our festival experience and invite experts from the fields of philosophy, aesthetics, dance and directing to join us for a discussion. Despite all the analytical consideration and discussion of content, perspectives, (re-)presentations and conventions, the focus will always be on personal and individual, perhaps intimate experiences at the festival and their joint reflection. We may also ask or report on what turns us on or off, how we experience other people or the community at the festival, what - perhaps confrontational or transformative - experiences we have had in the movie theater or in the darkroom of the festival party, how the festival as a whole functions on all levels of experience. In the spirit of the Critical Fridays series, in search of the renunciation of the dusty separation of body, mind and soul.
