This event is part of the series CRITICAL FRIDAYS. Here, the outdated separation of body, mind and soul is dispensed with and instead questions are asked about embodied cognition and the cognitive powers of the somatic. The focus is on the body as a medium for artistic and ritual practices. We create dialogs with experts from the fields of science, art and care work. Performances, workshops, readings and film screenings serve as a starting point for joint reflections in which an arc is drawn between closeness and distance, between personal experiences and avant-garde cultural theories.
"Fake therapy" and "political therapy" are practices between two people that stimulate and reactivate the sometimes hidden abilities of each person to heal anyone (or anything). They are independent of disciplinary origins and reject expertise or any form of knowledge authority. They were invented and made available as open source by the artist Valentina Desideri. It began with an attempt to meet for 20-minute individual sessions in which one person tried to "heal" the other without knowing how. Each time, the roles were reversed and the last ten minutes were spent describing in as much detail as possible what the 'therapists' did. She then developed a card game with instructions inspired by these descriptions, which can be modified in any way imaginable. The roles of therapist and patient are arbitrary and interchangeable.
"Fake therapy" invites us to address problems on a personal level, while "political therapy" deals with structural problems and creates the conditions for developing other languages to talk about and make politics. No solution or cure is intended. The sessions are for those who do not need or want to be fixed. By playing with the therapeutic setup, we will rethink the concept of (self-)care and celebrate the ability of problems to unfold thoughts and images through touch and conversation.
