JANNA SCHNEEWITTA REHBEIN: TEMPLE OF SORROW - LOSSES OF THE YEAR

  • serrat(u)s bodywork - Zurich 40 Zwinglistrasse Zurich, ZH, 8004 Zurich, Switzerland (map)

A series of TEMPLE OF SORROW is coming to an end, just like the year itself. The TEMPLE OF SORROW LOSSES OF THE YEAR invites you to reconnect with the past and mourn what may not have happened, what may have been lost or broken. Perhaps wishes have remained unfulfilled, relationships have become difficult or have dissolved. There may also have been other losses, be it the loss of people, animals, places or homes.

Together we will wander through the past year, linger at various stations and pause. We will share songs and stories and receive an introduction to grief work.

For this gathering, please bring any items you associate with grief from this year, as well as writing and coloring utensils and comfortable clothing.

Grief is a door opener to vitality, vitality, beauty and courage. Every grief has its own intelligence, is its own medicine. It is a love letter to life, or as Toko-pa Turner writes in her book Belonging:

"We mourn for the loved ones we have lost. We mourn the loss of our abilities due to illness or old age. We mourn the loss of faith in our religion. We mourn our children leaving home. We mourn the paths we did not take. We mourn the family we never had. We mourn the suffering on our planet. But even though grief looks like an expression of pain that serves no purpose, it is actually the soul's recognition of what we value. Grief is the honor we pay to that which we hold dear. And only by connecting to what we hold dear can we know how to move forward. In this way, grief is a movement."

The Temples Of Sorrow touch on themes of loss, upheaval and reorientation, which is often painful. I recommend taking good care of yourself in the days before and after the mourning room. Helpful questions can be: What are resilience practices? What can be walks in nature for one person can be movies, good food, dancing or singing for another. These can all be things that help you to find your center and balance yourself after and before grieving.

The TEMPLES OF SORROW are spaces of experience and not therapy. They require that you can move consciously and independently in them and maintain your presence. It is therefore not usually a suitable place for people with bipolar disorder, psychosis, severe unresolved trauma or other psychological limitations. If you have any doubts or concerns, please discuss this with a therapist beforehand. The TEMPLES are drug/substance-free rooms, and you should not have consumed drugs or worked with psychoactive substances within a certain distance of a Temple.

If you are unsure about any of these topics, please feel free to contact Janna.

NOTES ON THE EVENT

The aims of our events are to learn together as a group and support shared processes as well as personal development. Couples and all other types of partnerships or constellations are welcome, but you should be aware and open to the fact that the courses are not designed as partnership experiences and that we address each person as an individual. For example, in order to include all participants equally, we usually work with random partner combinations in the exercises. This means that there will be both the same and different gender combinations. Participants should generally be open to working with any person and any body. Exceptions can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Gender identity, sexual orientation, age or membership of marginalized groups such as BBIPoC, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA*, people with disabilities, etc. are not criteria when registering and selecting participants.

We expect you to be careful, communicative, consent-oriented and mindful, and we encourage you to respect your own boundaries and self-responsibility.
Hate speech will not be tolerated. Please bring "candy speech".
We reserve the right to ask participants to leave the workshop should their behavior be hurtful or too problematic, and we reserve the right to do so without explanation - although we will likely try to explain. Workshop fees would then be refunded in full. Further claims are then excluded.
We do our best to accommodate different needs, but our resources are limited. If in doubt, please contact us.

You can read more about this topic here.
