Bodies and sex are unruly. They don’t always do what’s asked of them. They go limp. They’re not in the mood. They shut down. Closed. Nope. No thanks! You can kiss my—ass! That’s what we’ll be exploring this evening, as we view so-called “dysfunctions” as delightful acts of impropriety. As clever refusals to perform sexual duties. As passive resistance.
After all, if the credo of the sex-positive scene—“Everything is possible, nothing is mandatory”—is true, what can we learn from the experiences that tend to be neglected within the scene: asexuality, celibacy, lack of desire, turn-offs, and sexual dysfunction?
What do our bodies know? Are they smarter than our cognition? What are they rebelling against? How can we listen to them? Are they on our side? Can we trust them? After all, power structures are embodied as well…
>> Beate Absalon and >> Eva Hanson will guide you through this evening, where it’s okay to let things slide every now and then. In an atmosphere of cozy idleness, there will be readings from Beate’s debut non-fiction book, “Not Giving a Fuck: On Listless Sex and Sexless Desire,” and Eva’s response, “Ode to the Flaccid Penis.” In addition to inviting discussion, there will also be small somatic exercises to play with the weakened states of our bodies…
