Bodies and sex are unruly. They don’t always do what’s asked of them. They go limp. They’re not in the mood. They shut down. Closed. Nope. No thanks! You can go to hell—or love me! That’s what we’ll try to do this evening, when we view so-called “dysfunctions” as delightful acts of impropriety. As clever refusals to perform sexual duties. As passive resistance.
For if the credo of the sex-positive scene—“Everything is allowed, nothing is required”—is true, what can we learn from the experiences that tend to be overlooked in the scene: asexuality, celibacy, lack of desire, turn-offs, and sexual dysfunction?
What do our bodies know? Are they wiser than our minds? What are they rebelling against? How can we listen to them? Are they on our side? Can we trust them? After all, power structures are embodied as well…
>> Beate Absalon and >> Eva Hanson will guide us through this evening, where we can let things slide every now and then. In an atmosphere of cozy laziness, we’ll read from Beate’s debut non-fiction book “Not Giving a Fuck: On Listless Sex and Sexless Desire” and Eva’s response “In Praise of the Flaccid Penis.” In addition to inviting discussion, there will also be small somatic exercises to play with the exhausted states of our bodies…
