Let’s start the year by creating a space for collective mourning.
This will be the first in a series of spaces for collective mourning in 2023.
Grief is a gateway to vitality, beauty, and courage. Every grief has its own wisdom and healing power. Our tears often open new doors to ourselves. This first gathering of the new year is an invitation to a space for shared grief. Songs, stories, and reflections will be part of our time together.
For me, grief is a love letter to life, a profound connection to the vitality and beauty of life, and it follows one of the most natural forms of intelligence I know—or as Toko-pa Turner writes in her book *Belonging*:
“We mourn the loved ones we have lost. We mourn the abilities we are losing to illness or old age. We mourn the loss of faith in our religion. We mourn our children leaving home. We mourn the paths we never took. We mourn the family we never had. We mourn the suffering on our planet. Yet even though grief may seem like an expression of pain that serves no purpose, it is in reality the soul’s acknowledgment of what we cherish. Grief is the honor we bestow upon what is dear to us. And only through our connection to what we love can we know how to move forward. In this way, grief is a movement.”
An event presented by
JANNA SCHNEEWITTA REHBEIN
“Mywork is inspired by my teachers Francis Weller, Martin Prechtl, the International School of Temple Arts, Isabel Knauf, SobonfuSomé, Judith Wilhelm of the Wildeshausen Wilderness School, Louise Claire, and especially by Elke and Aaron Leopthin-Gerwert, as well as my supporters Filiz Telek and Lotan Saphir, and numerous other friends, loved ones, and my family.”
Janna Schneewitta Rehbein, a certified art therapist and holder of a Master of Arts in Context, supports people during life transitions and sabbaticals, guides them through the grieving process, and, above all, creates spaces for communal grieving in various formats, such as multi-day memorial fires and mourning rituals. For her, the grieving process is a profound path to joy and vitality and follows a natural intelligence.
Even during her studies, she focused on the themes of grief and memory and explored different ways of life and communities. After realizing various international art and exhibition projects, she led seminars around the world and built networks of young people. She developed civic engagement programs and training courses for seminar leaders, and supported countless people going through times of upheaval.

NOTES ON THE EVENT
The goals of our events are collaborative learning within the group, supporting shared processes, and personal development. Couples and all other types of partnerships or group dynamics are welcome, but you should be aware and open to the fact that the courses are not designed as partnership experiences and that we address each person as an individual. For example: To involve all participants equally, we usually work with random partner combinations during the exercises. This means that both same-sex and opposite-sex combinations will occur. Participants should generally be open to working with every person and every body. Exceptions can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or membership in marginalized groups such as BBIPoC, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA*, people with disabilities, etc., are not criteria for registration or participant selection.
We expect you to act with care, be communicative, prioritize consent, and be mindful, and we encourage you to respect your own boundaries and take personal responsibility.
Hate speech will not be tolerated. Please bring "Candy Speech" with you.
We reserve the right to ask participants to leave the workshop if their behavior is hurtful or problematic, and we reserve the right to do so without explanation—though we will likely try to explain it. Workshop fees would then be refunded in full. Any further claims are excluded.
We do our best to accommodate different needs, but our resources are limited. Please contact us if you have any questions.
