Beata is participating in the wonderful exhibition *Life Constantly Escapes* at Kunstraum Niederösterreich with her performance workshop *Fake Therapy & Political Therapy *.

FAKE THERAPY & POLITICAL THERAPY

Fake Therapy and Political Therapy are practices "between two people that stimulate and reactivate each person’s sometimes hidden abilities to heal anyone (or anything). [They are] independent of disciplinary origins and reject expertise or any form of intellectual authority." The artist Valentina Desideri invented these practices and made them available as open source. It began with an attempt to “meet for 20-minute individual sessions in which one person tried to ‘heal’ the other without knowing how. Each time, the roles were switched, and the last ten minutes were devoted to describing in as much detail as possible what the ‘therapists’ were doing.” She then developed a card game with instructions inspired by these descriptions, which can be modified in every conceivable way. The roles of therapist and patient are arbitrary and interchangeable.
"Fake Therapy" invites us to address problems on a personal level, while "Political Therapy" deals with structural issues "and creates the conditions for developing new ways of speaking about and engaging in politics."
No solution or cure is intended. The sessions are “for those who do not need or want to be fixed.” By playing with the therapeutic setup, we will rethink the concept of (self-)care and “celebrate the ability of problems to unfold thoughts and images through touch and conversation.”
The workshop is part of the supporting program *The Senses Are Inexhaustible*, which complements the exhibition *Life Constantly Escapes*.
Due to COVID-19 safety measures, the workshop will be held online. Participation in the workshop is only possible in pairs, as the exercises are designed for two people.
