(AN)OTHER ORGY

  • serrat(u)s bodywork – Zurich 40 Zwinglistrasse Zurich, ZH, 8004 Switzerland (Map)

After the latest (AN)OTHER ORGY workshop
, we interviewed a few participants
and asked them how it went for them…
>> Listen to the interviews here!

“...it’s a word which for many immediately conjures salacious imagery and blushed cheeks. However, both the oldest and the most recently-adopted senses of this word contain meanings which may not be at all sexual in nature. The word first came into English in the middle of the 16th century in reference to secret ceremonial rites, particularly those of the Romans and ancient Greeks, which involved singing and dancing. The licentious meaning was not added until the beginning of the 18th century. And the most recent senses (‘a riotous display’ and ‘a manifestation of extreme indulgence’), which may describe such things as an assembly of garish colors or a spectacle of destruction, appear to date from the late 19th century” explains the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

An orgy! So many meanings! So legendary, so simply beautiful, or bluntly outrageous or crude! In any case, vast amounts of nebulous ideas run through our cultural unconscious of what an orgy can be. No wonder it's on so many people's bucket list, so they can finally experience it for themselves. Wait no longer! Our three-day gluttonous workshop takes this fantasy thoroughly to heart.

We’ll let ourselves be inspired by the many facets of the orgiastic: the images of nobly lascivious and at the same time lazily lolling and grape entwined splendid bodies of the ancient world. Of the excited teenage sleepovers with games of truth or dare, pillow-fighting and dry humping getting out of hand. Of the wildly expanding webs and overlays from the world of fauna and flora - soybean sprouts branching into each other or swarms of dolphins penetrating each others breathing holes.... OOf romantic or metaphysical melting and dissolving into oceanic feelings. Of sporty-porny swinger parties. Of hippiesque Summer-of-Love merriments, falling over each other in oblivion. What happens if we simply re-enact our favorite scenarios?

In preparation we'll practice being present with ourselves and others, sharpen our perception and develop a clear awareness of our intentions and desires. We get to know each other through mindful and playful group exercises, take time to explore boundaries and also difficult feelings in order to create an atmosphere for trust and creativity. It is the basis from which we dare to experiment: in a held space that makes room for spontaneity and a lot of sensuality. Precisely because we, as workshop facilitators, give clear and tangible impulses to play with. These help to orient yourselves and go even deeper, instead of stumbling in a void of endless possibilities. So we'll guide you to play with dynamics (ever had the pleasure of a slow-motion-orgy? And how slowness elegantly brings in elements of safeness, consent and barely evasive intimacy?); invite collective breathing to transform into drifters like jellyfish in the waves - instead of always having to do and make it ourselves; or remind you of focusing your attention to your five senses: how does the interaction change when everyone concentrates only on hearing, feeling, tasting, smelling or when everyone pauses for a moment as if someone had pressed the pause button to look around in peace and see what scandalous and delicious images unfold in front of their very eyes...

Come on, everybody!
