This event is part of the series CRITICAL FRIDAYS. Here, the outdated separation of body, mind and soul is dispensed with and instead questions are asked about embodied cognition and the cognitive powers of the somatic. The focus is on the body as a medium for artistic and ritual practices. We create dialogs with experts from the fields of science, art and care work. Performances, workshops, readings and film screenings serve as a starting point for joint reflections in which an arc is drawn between closeness and distance, between personal experiences and avant-garde cultural theories.

The history of modern pornography has always been a genuinely literary history that began with texts about the lives of prostitutes and autobiographies. At the event, we will read historical and contemporary texts on pornography in order to arrive at a diagnosis of the present in a joint exchange and to explore the topicality and traditional lines of literary productions of the pornographic. In this sense, writing styles, narrative forms and figurations as well as the political quality of pornography in literature can be explored. On the other hand, a special form of the embodiment of pornography can be experienced by reading and speaking the texts aloud. In this way, the primacy of the visual in pornography can be questioned and, in contrast, the textual constitution of reality can (once again) be brought to the fore.

The event will therefore firstly address questions of poetic procedure: How metaphorical may, how immediate must literary pornography be? What means and conventions does it use to have a suggestive effect and to affect? What 'reality effects' does it use? Secondly, the role models and body images staged in literary pornography need to be considered. In their sometimes unreal, sometimes all too real phantasms, do they tend to be normative or subversive, consolidating or emancipatory? And how should a - literary, analytical, theorizing - debate relate to the constitutive and performative power of the texts? Thirdly, the aesthetic alliances of the pornographic must be taken into account, for example with the obscene or the drastic. To what extent does the medium of literature thematize the sayable and the representability itself? To what extent do the texts test the reasonable and the unreasonable in equal measure by aiming to transgress conventions and excess? Does the pornographic allow for coping at all?
