Shantala Hummler and Thomas Traupmann will have pornographic literature read aloud and invite the audience to examine its poetic techniques more closely: How metaphorical can literary pornography be, or how explicit must it be? What devices does it employ to affect us as readers? How graphic or obscene are these texts? To what extent do they systematically test the limits of what is acceptable? The history of modern pornography will also be presented as a genuinely literary history. Together, we will reflect on the relevance and the traditions of contemporary representations of the pornographic. In this way, we aim to explore styles of writing, narrative forms, and figurations, as well as the political dimension of the pornographic in literature.
