JANNA SCHNEEWITTA REHBEIN: TEMPLE OF SORROW – WHAT WAS, WHAT IS, WHAT IS TO COME?

  • serrat(u)s bodywork – Zurich 40 Zwinglistrasse Zurich, ZH, 8004 Switzerland (Map)

TEMPLES OF SORROW is a series of events for collective mourning.

As the year draws to a close and in keeping with the winter solstice, here’s another evening themed around the winter solstice. This time, the event focuses on the end of the year and is less of a traditional “Trauerruam” and more of a creative opportunity to bring closure to a year that’s drawing to a close—and perhaps, for some, a chance to take a moment for themselves before the holidays.

What was, what is, what's to come?

With the new year, the holidays, and the longest night of the year just around the corner, we invite you to: “Take a little break from the hustle and bustle, treat yourself to a moment just for you, and join us as we reflect:What has been? What is? What’s to come?”

Starting at the winter solstice, the days begin to grow longer again, and darkness slowly gives way to light. It’s a good reason to come together and, during this special moment of transition, take a deep breath, settle in, and let our imaginations run wild and reflect.

What can you expect? Movement, sharing, music, stories, and above all, lots and lots of creativity! We’ll tear, cut, glue, layer, write, draw, and create collages—a colorful interplay of images, thoughts, and feelings. It’ll be slow at times and fast at others. A little tearing marathon and timed writing, as well as a gentle, slow journey through the months and seasons.

We'll bring a lot of supplies, but if you have any pictures, newspapers, scissors, glue, or pens of your own, feel free to bring them along—as well as your calendar or journal, if you'd like.

We're meeting on Friday at 6:00 p.m.; you're welcome to come as early as 5:30 p.m. and get settled. We'll have some light snacks and tea available, but if you want more, please bring your own.

NOTES ON THE EVENT

The goals of our events are collaborative learning within the group, supporting shared processes, and personal development. Couples and all other types of partnerships or arrangements are welcome, but you should be aware and open to the fact that the courses are not designed as partnership experiences and that we address each person as an individual. For example: To involve all participants equally, we usually work with randomly assigned partner combinations during the exercises. This means there will be both same-sex and opposite-sex pairings. Participants should generally be open to working with any person and any body. Exceptions can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or membership in marginalized groups such as BBIPoC, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA*, people with disabilities, etc., are not criteria for registration or participant selection.

We expect you to act with care, be communicative, prioritize consent, and be mindful, and we encourage you to respect your own boundaries and take personal responsibility.
Hate speech will not be tolerated. Please bring “Candy Speech” with you.
We reserve the right to ask participants to leave the workshop if their behavior is harmful or problematic, and we reserve the right to do so without explanation—although we will likely try to explain our decision. Workshop fees would then be refunded in full. Any further claims are excluded.
We do our best to accommodate different needs, but our resources are limited. Please contact us if you have any questions.

You can read more about this topic here.
