Once again we have invited the internationally renowned Kinbaku artists TAMANDUA & BRIKI. This time to teach a series of 4 workshops - the PROGRESSIVE SHIBARI SERIES - in Zurich. A great opportunity for the growing Swiss rope community to learn TAMANDUA's particularly refined style in depth.

The series starts with the weekend of July 7-9 at intermediate level - this first course is aimed at people who have just learned suspension lines and a chest harness and have taken their first steps with them.

TAMANDUA & BRIKI will then return to Zurich every three months to introduce participants to more complex and challenging bondage, from suspensions to transitions.

The courses can also be booked independently of each other. The requirements for participation naturally increase from course to course. Friday will be a preparation day with a special topic and can be booked separately.

Safe the dates! July 7-9 / October 6-8 / January 19-21 / April 12-14

See below for prices & booking.
Course language: English.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY - 8-9 JULY

Deep Focus Weekend - Part 1:
Principles of suspension work

The first in a series of 4 skill progressive workshops offered by Tamandua and Briki in Zurich every 3 months.

In this module we focus on the bare bones of suspension technique and purpose, suitable for students who are new to the subject of suspension work, but not new to tying in general.

Tamandua and Briki will teach the most important principles of upline/suspension usage, and how it interacts with rope structures, and with the body itself on an experiential and anatomical level.

The weekend will be heavy on technical explanations and drills. Despite this, we aim to incorporate them into pleasurable explorations of concepts throughout as well.

Topics for the weekend:

  • What does an upline do? Understanding uplines as a tool for control and effect.

  • What makes a tie suspendable? Focus on proper tension and placement when tying harnesses and single column for a suspension scene

  • Basic suspendable versions of some of Tamandua's common patterns - TK/gote, tengu, futomomo, legs together harness

  • Technical drills for safely attaching, lifting, locking and lowering lines with ease.

  • Surrender, resistance and flow - perspectives on being in ropes

  • Introduction to common shape categories: gyaku ebi (facedown backbend), torsions, M-shape (spread leg), face up

  • General safety: nerve damage, efficiency vs solidity, risk evaluation

Taking this workshop is a recommended if you wish to attend more advanced classes from Tamandua in the future, including future modules in this workshop series

Prerequisites for this workshop:

  • Be able to tie a single column tie that does not collapse or open when pulled on, with ease. Please practice a lot before the workshop!

  • Be able to tie some kind of solid harnesses on the floor.
Meaning the ropes should not become loose or shift placement on the skin when the models position is changed (ex from crouching to stretching out). Neither should they cause strong circulation loss or pain.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Some basic familiarity with how suspension works, as shown and explained by a teacher or experienced student of shibari.
This is to ensure everyone in the group has some basic references for understanding the instructions well.
If you do not have this, please contact an instructor or rope group near you for advice prior to the event.

Bring:

  • A kit of single ply jute ropes sold for the purpose of shibari/kinbaku, around 6mm thick.
Minimum 7 ropes of ca 7,5-8 meters length and 1 cut into a couple of shorter bits.
Ropes from hardware stores, or from sex stores intended for bedroom bondage are not recommended!

  • Safety shears

  • 1-2 carabiner

GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE EVENT

The aims of our events are to learn together as a group and to support joint processes as well as personal development. Couples and all other types of partnerships or constellations are welcome, but you should be aware and open to the fact that the courses are not designed as partnership experiences and that we address each person as an individual. For example, in order to include all participants equally, we usually work with random partner combinations in the exercises. This means that there will be both the same and different gender combinations. Participants should generally be open to working with any person and any body. Exceptions can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Gender identity, sexual orientation, age or membership of often marginalized groups such as BBIPoC, migrants, refugees, LGBTQIA*, disabled people, etc. are not criteria when registering and selecting participants. This means that, in principle, everyone is equally welcome and we endeavor to do justice to the respective constellation and different needs, but our resources are limited. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact us.

We expect you to be careful, communicative, consent-oriented and mindful, and we encourage you to respect your own boundaries and self-responsibility.
Hate speech will not be tolerated. Please bring "candy speech".
We reserve the right to ask participants to leave the workshop should their behavior be hurtful or too problematic, and we reserve the right to do so without explanation - although we will likely try to explain. Workshop fees would then be refunded in full. Further claims are then excluded.

You can read more about this topic here.

PRICES AND IF SOLD OUT

We would like to give low-income earners the opportunity to attend our events with low(er) income tickets. We cordially invite high-income earners to make it possible for us to make this offer with a higher contribution. We would like to thank you in advance for your solidarity.

For PEOPLE WITH PARTICULARLY LOW INCOME there is usually the possibility of even lower prices. Please do not hesitate to write to us and ask. We are happy if you can be part of it!

Is the event sold out on the ticket platform? Write to us! There may be a waiting list or another opportunity to take part after all.
